Proprietary of a technology is dead weight because you spend money for nothing at all. (secrecy and property rights)
As we have discussed generic knowledge is important for cultural technological improvements (new dimensions …). So after knowledge is created it is relatively costless to communicate to other professionals and it is difficult to keep this knowledge privy.
